Indonesia President Joko Widodo inaugurates the AMIN Captive Copper Smelter Project built by NFC

On September 23, 2024, Indonesia then president Joko Widodo inspected the newly completed AMIN Captive Copper Smelter project on Sumbawa Island, West Nusa Tenggara Province, where he attended the inauguration ceremony and announced the commencement of the smelter’s operation. This Copper smelter, developed as a national strategic project, represents a major milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen its copper industry.


President Widodo said that the startup of the AMIN Captive Copper Smelter Project marked the beginning of a new era for Indonesian copper industry. With an annual treatment capacity of 900,000 tons of copper concentrate, the facility is capable of producing 220,000 tons of LME grade-A cathode copper, 18 tons of gold, 55 tons of silver, and 850,000 tons of sulfuric acid as by-product,, enabling Indonesia, ranked among the global top seven countries in copper reserves, to significantly increase the added value of its mineral resources, thereby reducing its reliance on the export of raw materials. Mr. Bahlil, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, praised the project team for successfully completing the construction of this large-scale copper smelter and its auxiliary facilities within just 14 months, in accordance with the goals set by the Indonesian government.
